The Women's Ledger
The business of women's football

Welcome back.
Three stories this time, and they sit at very different points of the women's game. A crowdfunding round at tier six that produced something women's football almost never has — a published valuation. The question of what FIFA's new global tournament will actually pay. And what the Manchester City decision does, and doesn't, mean for the club's women's team.

The Lead Story
Camden Town WFC Was Valued at £480,000. What Did 96 Investors Actually Buy?
|
|
£480,000.
That is what a tier six women's football club was valued at before 96 investors put £138,533 into it through a crowdfunding platform. Women's football has almost no observable valuations below its professional divisions, which makes this one worth examining closely.
Following the shares turns up something the coverage missed. The company that received the money is not the one most people would expect, and what the investors actually hold is more complicated than the headline suggests.

Could Manchester City's Financial Case Affect Manchester City Women?
|
|
The Premier League proceedings concern Manchester City's men's club. Manchester City Women are a separate company, generating £10.6m of turnover and losing £2.8m, with their own accounts and share capital.
But the WSL's own rules recognise that a corporate event elsewhere in a club's group can reach the women's team. Corporate separation is real. It is not unlimited.

The Women's Club World Cup Could Be Heading to America. What Will It Be Worth to WSL Clubs?
|
|
FIFA's first Women's Club World Cup runs through January 2028, with reports suggesting the United States as host. The prize fund has not been announced — but Arsenal received $2.3m for winning FIFA's Champions Cup this year, and UEFA will be distributing €46.7m a season across its women's competitions by the time the tournament starts.
The WSL's objection is the calendar. At least five league rounds could be affected, while the clubs facing the disruption may not be the clubs receiving FIFA's participation and prize money.
